Congratulations Halle BUT...

I must come into full agreement with Booker Rising's Shay on this issue. Yes, I am glad that actress Halle Berry is deciding to bring a child into the world but as Shay rightfully protests that this is "another out-of-wedlock situation". "Not another family values" commentary, you may say. Well, I am afraid yes---this is going to be a family values discussion. "How dare you impose your values on Halle Berry?" One may protest. How about for me to turn this around and say this to you, "How dare actresses like Halle, IMPOSE their values on North American society?!" It seems that many Hollywood actors and actresses seem to pay it no mind of having children out of marriage, thinking it is their divine right to "redefine" the family. Anyone who wants to propose to continue how things were done the "old-fashioned" way which was to fall in love, get married and have children is seen as stupid, naive beyond human comprehension, worthy of contemptful satirical humour and is monitored with Neo-McCarthyist suspicion. For goodness sake, it doesn't take an Einstein that marriage and the family were the stabilizing influence for society for thousands of years. Though Christianity throughout the ages had it's neurotic issues and controversies, it is to be complemented that Christianity as a whole, sought to preserve those values for over 2000 years. Yes, those values have passed the test of time and in general(with few exceptions) have worked. It has been since the 1960's that the social engineers aggressively sought to redefine those values and marginalize those who dared to dissent. This nearly 40 years old experimentation hasn't worked very well hasn't it. What does this have to with Halle Berry? Well, I guess this is a discussion about her choice to have a child outside marriage and with her being a famous person, she needs to recognize that this has consequences of literally shaping and molding attitudes of general public. She may innocently not think that this is not the case but the fact remains that the opposite rings true. This further solidifies the mentality of many that marriage is not that important anymore. It further solidifies the mentality of the false belief that you really don't need a mother and father both living together to raise a child. As Shay has rightfully pointed out, that this has ramifications for the black community both in the United States and in Canada (as Halle Berry is a woman who has African American ancestry) in solidifying the mentality that single motherhood is glamourous (talk my mom who has raised me and my brother and I am sure she will tell you it's anything but), natural and it is thing to do. Common sense should tell anybody, isn't sooo much easier having a father and mother raising a child together? It is my wish that that there be a generation of Hollywood actors (born after 2000) that is not afraid to fall in love, get married and have children---the old fashioned way! In their decision, it will be a bold, courageous, brash and rebellious decision against their older counterparts. There is nothing wrong with the traditional family in and by itself. It is people who do not understand (or care not to understand) the roles in a traditional family that run amock and abuse it. I understand Halle Berry's reluctance to getting married because of her two previous failed relationships but it is my firm hope that in the not-to-distant future, Halle will receive spiritual guidance that will transform her as a person and have an understanding that marriage is child-centred, not self-centred as many people have mistakenly assumed. As for now, my sincere best wishes for Halle Berry, my fellow Canadian (and her boyfriend) Gabriel Aubry and the upcoming child.

CNN International confirmed his passing at his home in Italy at 5 a.m. local time. We thank you Luciano for the wonderful voice and music you provided for over the years. It will be truly missed. If you were disappointed with the summer of threquels (Oh yes, this includes Rush Hour 3---where Chris Tucker was no longer funny but rude and obnoxious, Spider Man Three and Pirates of the Carribean At World's End where it was decided that the audience needed to be confused as hell for the perverse joy of it---the only threequel I found that didn't disappoint was the Bourne Ultimatim) here is a movie that was released this past Friday. It didn't have the flashy hype of promotion. Thank God it didn't because it didn't need to. It was for the serious thinking movie goer. It was a movie that will not insult your intelligence by special effects and random action scenes for the sake of it. Also,it wasn't a threequel. Resurrecting the Champ that stars Josh Harnett and Samuel L. Jackson about a relationship between a journalist and a homeless man who called himself "The Champ" who makes a very serious claim that he was fomer boxer Bob Satterfield. This claim does have a very big focus in the movie with a surprise twist to follow (I'm not spoiling the movie). I applaud Josh Harnett's performance, he is one of those few damn good actors (who usually is the sensitive hunk in his movies ie. Hollywood Homicide)who knows how to pick a good movie to star in (hint, hint,Sandra) and Samuel L. Jackson...what can I say, you give him ANY role, he does it with intensity. The movie is also based on father and son relationships, integrity, honesty,standing up for principle, taking responsibility, discovering the truth---no matter where the road takes you. It has funny moments and most definately and unavoidably some very sad moments. I am not going to give you a thorough plot summary but I recommend that you go out and see this movie to be entertained and to learn some of life's lessons at the same time. Should this get some Oscar considerations? Maybe, but probably it won't. I hope I'm wrong. If you are looking for a break from the flash in the pan shallow entertainment, Resurrecting the Champ is definately for you and I give this movie two thumbs waaay up!

Last night from a good hard night from work, I was doing some websurfing and discovered this interesting blog called 101 People Who Are Screwing Up Canada by a New Brunswick-based social conservative why goes by the pseudonym by Spinks. His top two people are none other than abortionist (and abortion rights activist) Henry Morgentaler and scientist and environmentalist David Suzuki (I guess his self-righteousness rubs some people the wrong way). TAMMY FAYE MESSNER

1942-2007

We all remember her in the 1980's with her then husband, Jim Bakker in the PTL scandal but we also remember her taking the good news of the gospel to the celeberty circuit (i.e. the Surreal Life) and show loved and compassion to the homosexual community while at the same not approving their lifestyle and behaviour on biblical grounds. She was a brave, bold, fierce soldier in battling colon cancer right 'til the end. On the Larry King show on CNN a few days ago, possibly her last interview, we all seen weary torn face from the effects of that evil disease cancer, making her look way past her 65 years on earth. She was still praising her God, never in a bad attitude and was ready to meet her Maker at anytime. Thankfully, The Maker took her home Friday morning and her battle was over. Rest in peace, ma'am to be perfected and revised by the Author, the Maker---God Almighty. May he speed that day!

I remember years ago as child around 10-11 years old, I had possessed a comic book where on the front a woman says, "I can't stand him, but I love his kisses." Metaphorically, this explains my feelings on Conrad Black who convicted on 4 counts of mail fraud. I possess his book through a history professor friend called, "Duplesssis" about Quebec's provincial premier during the '30's through the 50's---a very thick book. Another recent book, yes another large and thick one on late former U.S. President Richard Nixon which I read partially the latter chapters. Thoroughly researched and articulately written. I love his interviews with TVO's Alan Gregg on his works. Conrad Black is no dummy and possesss incredible intellect to be respected. Where the angry breath under my nostrils against this man begins is that he is in no doubt arrogant, elitist, religiously selfish which he considers a proud virtue to be promoted. He is truly a 19th century laissez-faire baron and that is probably why of the likes of Toronto Sun's Peter Worthington and fellow neo-conservative blogger Adam Daifallah so esteem him so highly. There are those that believe that this was a conspiracy against Black and an attack on those who are priviledged. I cannot firmly disagree more with those sentimental thinking. This man had a pattern of exploiting people in order take over their business and at my church today, a woman told me she worked where Conrad Black worked back in the early '70's and it was reported that he was meddling with the pension. Do you see a pattern? Me and this woman both said, "Amen!" to the charges Conrad Black was getting. I have no tears for the man because this man is a malignant narcissist who believes it is all about him and him only. I have encountered those who are malignant narcissists, escpecially those that were in a position of power and authority. It amazing how destructive and how much they get away with . It is my hope that sentencing on November 30th of this year will be swift, severe and just. May it serve a lesson to those that anything you do, is of serious consequence. You cannot always get away with it.

I know some of my fellow conservative friends (whether Canadian or American) who are Michael Moore haters and proud of it probably want to burn me at the stake for political heresy and for deviating from political orthodoxy. The reason is that I give two thumbs up for the movie Sicko. Though Canada's health care system does have problems and I am aware of them (talk my mom when she took ill this January but is doing well, on the stroke prevention program) but I am glad that we did not have to go through the tragic stories that Americans had to face on a daily basis. Nobody needs to lose their home (and gets verbally kicked when their down by their own family), pay $60,000 to re-attach a finger, thrown out of a hospital because you cannot pay the hospital bill and other horror stories. My friend Joe and I while watching the movie could not help ourselves barely containing our seething anger at another story which in effect is how the masses of the many serve the needs of the elite few. I was cheering on in the movie that a senior citizen golfer who is Canadian talked about the benefits of having his own operation in Canada than in the United States. Like myself, this man is a member of the Conservative Party of Canada was definately no socialist (any heartless ideologue who thinks otherwise keep dreaming). Everybody also knows (and if they don't know they do know now) I am no fan of Fidel Castro (never was and never will) and I hope he passes the through the scene soon and that many Cuban Americans will help re-build a very prosperous Cuba (let Vida Guerra become their answer to Oprah too!) but it should shake the heads of many when volunteer emergency workers from the 9-11 catastrophe who served their country in an national crisis and emergency cannot get affordable, adequete health care in the country in which they risked their lives and health but got decent treatment in Cuba, after being practically being turned away from Guantanimo Bay when Michael Moore got a boat taking these volunteer workers hoping that those he took would get the same treatment as the terrorists being detained at Gitmo. It was an interesting observation on not only the Canadian system of health care but the British and French as well. With the French there is a lot more intervention in personal life (and I would not recommend that North Americans follow every single thing the French does) but I will grudgingly admit as those Americans in France submit that when they talk about family values, the government does back it up with action. Anyone who religiously believes that the American health care system is fine as it is, is either an lassez-faire ideologue in an ivory tower of his or her ideology totally disconnected and isolated with the struggles, concerns and issues of the average Americans and is simply heartless and proud of it. Americans need an honest discussion about come next election, next year. It is my wish that the next president will do something about it and fight ideologues who pretend to care but only interested in serving the interests of the elite few.

The Provincial Election I have been waiting for!

It is exactly 4 months until the next provincial election. These next short months ahead will prove to be fateful for both Premier Dalton McGuinty and Progressive Conservative Leader John Tory. Both of their political careers are at stake. This election should more than just an exercise in a irritating and annoying ritual of an "election", it should represent a firm, brave and fiercely deliberate decision where Ontario should go. The options for this province is unmistakably clear: dull, comfortable, complacent, mediocre, whiny socialist negaholicism and gray OR bold, adventurous, innovative,creative, futuristic and forward-thinking. It is equally pure stubborness and foolishness to think that the province of Ontario can have BOTH! This is strictly an either/or proposition. Premier McGuinty had nearly 4 years to choose the latter instead of the former but didn't. He is fanatically mistaken (and may he pay severely) if he thinks that the former is good and that the latter is not necessary. For goodness sake, we have almost completed the first decade of the 21st and in less than 3 years we shall enter the second decade of this century: the 2010's. The challenges that this province will face is no way for the dull and gray. In the second decade of the 21st, the first wave of baby boomers will retire impacting the effect on our economy. My generation, Generation X will still wonder about our future, more and more of Generation Y will be entering the workforce. Immigrants still want to fulfil their dreams and being pizza drivers, taxi drivers or working in convenient stores, getting paid by lower wages, surviving of being just over broke, does NOT cut it! Canada faces a lot of challenges in the coming years. Ontario cannot be a follower, Canada's most populous province must LEAD. If it doesn't, the rest of Canada faces a perilous future. John Tory must become the 25th Premier of the Province of Ontario on October 10th because he is acutely aware of these challenges and is an active and organic believer in a better future of Ontario. He understands that Ontario cannot in no way be static and a bright future for the province CAN happen and he will have none of this predestinarian fanatical stupidity of a perverted embracing of lower expectations and a clingy sick obsession with negativism for the future. Critics will delight in criticizing, "You trust John Tory and politicians too much!!!" While I like to bite these armchair critics to STFU, I am going to need to be more civil but still give a very equally stinging response and say, that you cannot have it both ways! Either WE the people,the electorate, gets off their collective asses, learn about the democratic process, learn about civics,educate ourselves in the issues and support people who have the head and the heart to make the changes necesssary OR we become twisted whiny ignoramic negaholics bitching about how politicians are a bunch of crooks and to sickly religiously believe that apathy is the highest virtue! Simply they are no two ways about it. So those critics who enjoy belittling those who want to practice the former instead of the latter by screaming, "You trust politicians too much!" Take your wicked ruse and burn in hell! The rest of us will prove that an active and energetic electorate is healthy for a democracy. An apathetic electorate has and always will stiffle the health of true democracy. To believe otherwise is just a silly fantasy and fanatical stupidity to say the least.

To those who reject the silly game of "apethetic and cynnical" politics, you have an option. John Tory has a new website called Leadership Matters at http://www.leadershipmatters.ca/ and as John says,"It's time to put an end to broken promises, weak leadership, and poor results." The choice is "solely" ours in so doing. Don't let anybody with peas for brains preach to you otherwise. Log on that website and help make a difference this October 10th!

Two thumbs waaay up for TRANSFORMERS!!!

As the song goes, "Transformers, robots in the sky. Transformers, more than meets the eye!" The Transformers movie itself showed that it more than meets the eye as well. This movie was waaay far superior to third instalment of Pirates of The Carribean,Spider Man 3, The second installment of The Fantastic Four, Live Free or Die Hard. This is HOW an action movie is supposed to be made! You add in a very brilliant, talented and an emerging young super actor of our times by the name of Shia Labeouf (who stared in an underrated but brilliantly made movie called Disturbia, earlier this year and who will be in the 4th installment of the Indiana Jones movie next year---I want to see this kid have a 70 year movie career), the sexy and sultry Megan Fox as the romantic sidekick (Beverly Hills 90210's Brian Austin Green's wife in real life), Jon Voight who plays the hard ass U.S. Secretary of Defence, John Tutoro who is a quasi-fascist (and proud of it) FBI Agent, Tyrese Gibson who is a fierce and loyal U.S. soldier, the brilliantly humourous Anthony Anderson who is a computer hacker geek and many others who eventually are led to ally with and strongly support alien robots who have intelligent life who battle other alien intelligent life robots whose wicked agenda is to eliminate human life on earth, turn it's technology into fighting machines in their image to dominate and conquer the rest of space. You have a smart but equally simple story line, lots of action, superior special effects, crashings, smashings and classic tale of good vs.evil (those who want relativity and everything gray, this movie is definately not for you). There will be sequels to be made, it is my firm hope that the sequels will not insult the intelligence of the moviegoer like Pirates of The Carribean: At World's End and Spider Man 3 which did in their vain, arrogant and stupid ploy to confuse the viewer with multiple confusing plots but will follow in the tradition of Star Wars (Episodes IV,V, VI) leaving people for more. I thought Bruce Willis' Live Free or Die Hard was the "guy" movie of the year but I think "Transformers" magnificantly topped that!

If you missed Steve Paikin's The Best of The Agenda on TVO this past Friday, you can hear the interesting discussion on The Agenda's website among Toronto's black community about the causes of youth gang violence. Very appropriate in light of the recent busts of the gangs in Toronto. As my friend Winston drove me and freshly, newly elected Etobicoke North Progressive Conservative Association riding president Oladipupo Dejifisanya (DJ for short) to Jamestown (one of Rexdale's toughest neighbourhoods, DJ had some important "legitimate" business to do there, of course!), as blacks (Winston, like my mother is a black Canadian from Nova Scotia, myself having my mom's heritage and my dad's Jamaican heritage and DJ's who hails from Nigeria) we were as collective, ALL relieved and thought it was long overdue. Thank you Police Chief Blair!!! Do I think gangs in Toronto will disappear? No I don't. Los Angeles police have been battling gangs for over 30 years, why should Toronto be any different? I just hope it is on a lesser scale than LA, though we can learn a lot from the LA police force because they have thorough experience. Though I agree strongly with The Agenda's panel that this does boil down to family values, I would have liked a small talk about how gangsta-rap has also played a role in this and a war against gangsta rap is necessary. I used to think this song Marina Del Ray was from Jimmy Buffet and I remember this song since I was a child in the late 1970's. It is only early this year 2007, that I learned that it was fellow Canadian Marc Jordan composed and sang this song in the album called Mannequin in 1978---not Jimmy Buffett! I look very forward to the upcoming provincial election this October 10th. I will even be more thrilled with ecstatic joy and delight beyond description that John H. Tory becomes the 25th Premier of the province of Ontario. I have had the pleasure of meeting the man twice. He talks to you like an old friend and is truly a chatterbox (and I say that in the most complimentary of terms! :) ). He is my idea of fiscal and economic conservatism fused with a social conscience. Damn to those who are rigid in their ideology who believe that those two concepts must be mutually permanently exclusive! I truly sense a special aura and positive vibe in John. He is a very honest person, a man with strong principles and one who wants to set the tone at Queen's Park. I find him one of the few conservative politicians comfortable with visible minorities. If I had it my way, I would love rapper Kanye West to say on a political advertisement that John Tory "cares about black people" (well uh, that's true he and Argo football coach Mike "Pinball" Clemens are friends). I applauded John when he decided to spend a night at a public housing unit, a very humbling act for a man who was born in wealth and priviledge.

Here comes the real world (and yes, as the song from Matchbox 20 says, I wish the real world would just stop hassling me!). The latest poll from SES Research has John Tory at a dead heat with Premier Dalton McGuinty (both share 29.8% of the vote). I wish John was clobbering McGuinty in the polls but for now, I will take what I can get. At least McGuinty is not getting a total free ride and John has a great opportunity from now and October to make the case why. Also he faces a possibly tough local campaign in the riding of Don Valley West where the incumbent MPP is Education Minister Kathyrine Wynne (and she's popular). As Christine Blizzard of the Toronto Sun says, "Suppose the Tories win a minority government -- but Tory himself doesn't get elected. Sure, he can lead the party for a while outside the Legislature. But he will need a safe seat -- and fast. Who's going to be the lucky donor? " Tories who know in their heart that a better Ontario is what's needed now, need to spread the word all over this province that John Tory is the one to set the tone and to be stubbornly foolishly complacent in re-electing Dalton McGuinty is the simply and tragically choosing the road nowhere.

Idiots at ABC TV cancel, the George Lopez show and want to replace it with a show based on that whiney, leftist politically correct caveman from those Gieco commercials but hey this is this same idiot network that cancelled Bill Maher's masterpiece of a show Politically Incorrect, Gina Davis' Commander In Chief and now a show that had a positive Latino American role model who had some pretty good decent family values. The slogan at ABC should be, "We are not here to make you think and we're proud of it!" GLo had some good harsh words for ABC himself like he cannot understand that a " Chicano with an audience" cannot be on TV while a caveman can and added this rightful shot, "TV just became really, really, white again." May I add stupid and proud of it too!

I knew this show cannot last forever but at least I was hoping it would have been given at least another 5 years on the CW network but it was never meant to be. 7th Heaven was done for good this past Sunday and forever will live in reruns and DVD collections. Television is truly in wasteland after no more Touched by an Angel, Joan of Arcadia and now NO more 7th Heaven. It seems like network executives are in a big rush to cancel spiritually-themed shows without any thought to it. My mom will truly miss Stephen Collins in the role of Revrend Eric Camden. I hope when I get to heaven God has the soothing voice of Stephen Collins. Another one of the great shows gone.

Jerry Fallwell 1933-2007: An American polarizing figure

I have had very mixed feelings about composing this post when I was informed about the death of one of the religious right's leader Jerry Fallwell. Some people, even his political and religious foes were actually touched by his kindness and his humility off the camera. Others like Christopher Hitchens on CNN had much more severe feelings toward the man. For myself, at times I was disturbed at some Fallwell's rigid and sometimes unrealistic ideas. It was a known fact that he was supported racial segregation but was known to change his position but in the 1980's was not much help to the anti-apartheid movement by saying that South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu a "phoney". Another example of Fallwell's rigid inflexible mentality was his concern over the appointment of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Conner in the Reagan administration because of her possible moderate views on abortion and other social issues and former U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater rightly replied, "Every good Christian should line up and kick Jerry Fallwell in the ass!" On a CNN special, Fallwell seemed that he did not care about the environment by brushing it off as fake. On the hand, he was sincere hearted behind the firmness in his convictions. I was watching Larry King last night and they were showing past clips of his various interviews and was telling a woman that there was no way for him to re-interpret Romans 1, where it explicitly condemns homosexuality in the New Testament. I think CNN waaay to much focused on his opposition to homosexuality in its coverage last night but on the other hand, I think Fallwell could have focused more on the growing gap of rich and poor, injustice and inequality in the United States. The Old Testament and Jesus Christ himself have a lot to say about that. The biggest moral issue that is emerging is not abortion nor gay marriage but poverty and in this age of globalization, we are ever seeing the wealth concentrated on the very few and the rest are only getting the leftovers. Unfortunately, Fallwell would have seen taking this cause as socialism. It is not socialism but humanity and the Bible has a heck of a lot to say about it. It is NOT a consumerist Holy Book and anyone who argues otherwise is foolish, dangerous and heretical . There is no question Revrend Fallwell has a page in American history and it will be an interesting chapter on this complex personality.

I have NOW an excuse to put the lovely picture of Rosario Dawson and Rose McGowan who pose in the upcoming Rolling Stone magazine, only wearing bullets, who truly have became the fire of my loins. I give them both great applause and respect for the roles in the latest movie Grindhouse which is actually two movies rolled into one, a joint project by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarintino. The first feauture is Planet Terror, which Rose McGowan's character, a former Go-Go dancer becomes a literal killing machine (a machine gun is attached to her severed leg) against zombies in a disease infected town. Then you have Death-Proof (which I liked a little better than Planet Terror, Quentin Tarintino is a master of cerebral dialogue in a movie!) about a psyco-stalker car stuntman played by Kurt Russell who committs vehicular homicide (but gets away because his victims were intoxicated) to a gang of beautiful women (one of his victims was radio DJ :"Jungle Julia" played by Sydney Poitier, Sidney's daughter) but when his hunt for another gang of young beautiful women is planned, the tables are eventually turned against him and gets a taste of his own medicine. If you like a good ol' car chase and car smashing story, this is definately for you. Kudos to an actress in the feature Death Proof, Traci Thomas who played Kim (leader of the pack that will execute vengeance on Russell's character Stuntman Mike) was a sassy, brassy, gun-totin' moma who stole the show. In the middle of these features you get the fake trailers like "Thanksgiving" and "Werewolf Women of the SS" (look for a peak for Nicholas Cage in this one) and get a good laugh. Tarintino and myself love strong, sexy women kicking ass (as they say great minds think alike)! All is I can say to Quentin, keep it coming (actually I wouldn't mind his next movie being another car action movie)! Two thumbs up!

Talk about an end of an era. My dad and my stepmother Tina have of last week left Brampton and headed eastward in this province near Belleville, an approximate 2 hour drive from Toronto. Stepbrother Ryan is staying in Brampton at a bachelor apartment and is having a contracted job with Hewlitt Packard (hopefully it will be permanent). Way to go Ryan. Dad will be moving into an 11 story house that is over 130 years old and the last owner of the house was the Fire Chief in Brampton! Talk about moving on up! Marley, you fat cat---you better enjoy your new home with Dad and Tina. For me, I hope to find a beautiful woman soon so I can marry and have kids , so we can have chance to stay a week away from the hustle and bustle of Toronto but I hope to visit Dad at his new home a little before that. Another reason to hustle for a car...

Update about my weight loss

Most of my adult life, I have had a battle of weight. The 2000's as I entered into my 30's, the war was much more intense. Diets could not save me anylonger as they did when I was in my 20's. Something more was need in my personal decade of thirtysomething: EXCERCISE and proper eating habits. I need to thank my own mother telling me about the Weston-Sheppard Fitness Centre in the area which charged $30.00 for three months and $100.oo for a year. It will be a year this April 10th (which happens to be my dad's birthday) that I have set foot in that place and the results have been profitable. I am currently 210 lbs. from 245 lbs. of when I started. I am still planning to lose a little more. What is debatable whether I should be 180 lbs (as Dr. Parris suggested) or 190lbs. to 200 lbs. I had spent a considerable amount of time on the treadmill, the eliptical and stationary bikes. When I first started in April I was there every damn day for a good damn two hours. I was serious in killing this fat that had aggressively plagued my body in my 30's. With a considerable portion of the weight off, I know that it will be time for me tone up for muscle and soon! I can finally start impressing the ladies for once (smile and laugh) ! On a more serious note, as I approach the big 4-0 in 2010, I have probably saved myself potentially dangerous health problems that could have probably shortened my life span. Yes, obesity kills! We need to take this epidemic very seriously as it is projected that many children of their parents will die before them because of health related problems to obesity. A parent should not be grieving over a child! The tide can be turned but I do understand it is a lot of work in the process, but the fight against obesity and being overweight is worth it.

Here is a sample chronology of my battle of the bulge in the 2000's (I have posted some of these pictures before but it's good to recap):

Me, circa late 2003 or early 2004. I was laid off from my job at CLO in October 2003. 2000 to 2003, I weighed about approximately 220 to 236 but this time I swelled up in the 250's. I do NOT want to go back to this EVER again in my lifetime!

This was my 34th birthday, with my longtime friend Joe Sapusak at Swiss Chalet Restaurant in Rexdale (it's now beautifully renovated) but as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (and his cousins "Hanz and Franz") would say, that I was a "girlie man!"

Me around 225-231 lbs. around June of 2006. It was at least 3 months of going to the Weston Sheppard Fitness Center since April of that year. I was feeling a lot better. I was getting less sluggish, less tired and of course, feeling better about myself. I knew that this was NOT my final destination. More work had to be done.

This is me, a leaner machine at around 209 to 210 lbs on March 10th of this year. Viva la difference!!! The key for me that exercise and good eating habits are a LIFESTYLE! I wish people everywhere can just throw away many diet books (maybe keep Atkins, it worked for me when I was 19). Exercise and activity is ESSENTIAL in losing weight. Children, teenagers, and adults of every age need to find a physical activity as a hobbie and stick with it! Again, the destination is not final and the journey continues but to a more positive ending if I persevere. From here, it is onward, upward.

Boy...I need to get a new wardrobe of clothing! I would also like a couple of a new suits (who knows I might Prime Minister Harper or someone of his calibre of importance)...Just asking!

I am a staunch fan of Bill Maher and his straightshooter, anti BS approach of talking. At this moment, I enjoy his 4 year season show Real Time on the internet. I thank fellow blogger Shay of Booker Rising of informing me and many others of the lovely, beautiful and brainy former Dutch MP of Somali background Aayan Hirsi was appearing on Bill's show. As a side note, a couple weeks ago, we in the Etobicoke North Progressive Conservative Party Association nominated York University Professor, Mohammed Kassim as a canidate to take on and defeat current MPP Shafiq Quadri in the next provincial election on October 10th. Mohammed, is also of Somali descent and Etobicoke North has contingent of Somali Canadians especially from the area of Dixon Road. Another side note, Bill Maher will be on Larry King this coming Monday (may he sock it to Cheney real good!).

Years ago I worked at Holland Hitch in Woodstock. We used to call it Sloppy Hitch. I had a conflict with a safety man because I was producing too much. (at the time unknown to me the factory executives were moving me around and seeing what production I could put out on machines.)
I found another Job making valve bodies for nuclear plants and stuff like that before I quit. After a few weeks at the new job I found I had been railroaded. The person I was put with to learn the job was a porn video store owner who also was a machinist. I hid my Christianity for that reason. He figured it out because I didn't curse or show any interest in his video store. He intentionally sabotaged my work, hid important information from me and I ruined 15 valve bodies welded with Stellite. Of course I was fired. So. Just because you find another Job doesn't mean stepping out will be successful.
I applied at other jobs and got a job at Great Northern Industries. I have been able to secure a Job or work for myself without a problem, but this is not the case with many. I will agree with the premise that getting a job involves looking for one. And for some thats rocket science.

Me and Mr. Maree

This past Friday, it was 25 years ago in 1982 at age 12 that I was at home sick with a very nasty cold when I was given a phone call with some sad news that my teacher Mr. Percy J. Maree had died. He was my Special Education teacher (thank God in the 2000's they call it Special Needs) from my stay at Daystrom Public School in North York from 1980 to 1982. A South African immigrant to Canada, he at times could be tougher than James Evans Sr. of the 1970's show Good Times (played John Amos), former New Jersey high school principal Joe Clark and more of a hard-ass than Prime Minister Stephan Harper combined! At the same time, he did care about his pupils. His main goal was to get all of us "integrated" into the regular grade classes and I was one of his success stories. In late 1981, Mr. Maree was preparing for some open heart surgery and was expecting to recover and be back in business in September of 1982. On the morning of 16th of February of that year that wasn't meant to be and that marked the end of his earthly course. What I can remember (if correctly) that it was a heart clot that marked the end. Looking back, I thought 62 was old but it wasn't. He was gone too soon. I know that he was a man of faith and I know it in my heart he is with the Lord. I look forward to seeing him again and for both of us to be revised and perfected by The Author, God Almighty Himself.

CHIN (1994?), Chris Woodcock whom I seen again when I went to Emery Collegiate in 1985 (and also got met his brother), Guy Dales whom I haven't seen since my days at Daystrom, Mrs. Dashwood who was giving special needs to Harley (waaay at the back). Be nice to some of the guys back again!

A Republican who is for the arts, who plays good ol' rock and roll in his own band, who believes in lower taxes and less bureaucracy and at the same eschews silly fanatical libertarian fantasies of privatizing basic essential needs like fire prevention and schools. Tragic in life, tragic in death---we in the Western world have seen her tragic story on television and other media. I was not much of a fan of Anna Nicole in life, I have only tears for a woman who lived most of her life in confusion and sadly seemed to thrive on such confusion. Like many other people, we worry about Anna Nicole's newborn daughter. Anna Nicole's "partner" Howard K. Stern seems shady and her other former lover, we don't know if he will fare any better raising the child. On top of that Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband is even making a claim that he may be the father of Anna Nicole's child. My title post indicated that the tragic life and death of Anna Nicole Smith is a family values issue. I admired Anna Nicole's determination to be a model from a young age and who rose up through the ranks of poverty but where was her father? Her mother did most (if not all) of the raising. Her mom, a former cop even went to the strip clubs where Anna Nicole performed telling the club manager that she wanted her out of there! Trust me (and talk to my mom and even my brother) that single parenting IS NOT easy as some people think it is. It really helps if you get parents that one is male and the other female as well (if people want to label me homophobic that I don't believe that two mommies or two daddies can provide equally as traditional parents, well let them label me). A good father, an authoritative father (NOT an authoritarian one and we should never confuse the two) could have provided some discipline, thorough instruction on how to be grounded, responsible and how to handle adverse situations without letting it control you. In other words, a good father provides, creates and makes STABILITY in a child's life. I think if Anna Nicole had that kind of a father present, there would be NO DOUBT that she could have had a better career than she could have imagined, would have had a much more grounded and solid life within that career and definately would have seen age 40 this coming November. Unfortunately, that did not happen. My wish for Anna Nicole's daughter Dannielynn is that she will manage to be raised with BOTH strong male and female role models, so she can live a stable life. She may or may not inherit her mom's wealth but it is far, far, more important that Dannielynn develops good moral character (another political incorrect term) and will take much more seriously than her mother that being grounded and stable is a paramount virtue she will never bend. This can only happen if Anna Nicole's mother and sister have a say in raising Dannielynn. My prayers, thoughts and hopes are with them and my prayers also extend to the fans who loved and admired Anna Nicole that they will find comfort in their grief. It is also my wish that God's mercy and divine grace is upon Anna Nicole and her son in death. May they both rest in peace.

On the same message board, where my buddy FYI Again gives his two cents on global warming, another person has indicated on old Newsweek article from the 1970's which suggested that the world was heading into another ice age. Actually you can read the 1975 article at http://www.glennbeck.com/2006news/newsweek-coolingworld.pdf . Makes you want to say "Can't some these scientists make up their minds??? One decade (the 70's) they say there is another ice age coming and another (actually two---the 90's and 00's) that it's global warming!" Sigh!

The question goes on a certain message board, "Is global warming happenening?"

Yes - It's pretty well documented that there has been a warming trend in *many* parts of the world (but not all) over the past century.

No - It's clear to anyone who looks at the numbers that the temperature change hasn't been nearly as drastic as the chicken little extremists would like us to believe.

Maybe - It's not at all clear what is causing the current round of warming. Is it man made? Perhaps. But we can't be sure. It's not at all clear that if we immediately stopped using all fossil fuels that it would make any difference - except perhaps to throw our civilization back into the bronze age. The earth has been going through heating and cooling cycles since long before any man made greenhouse gases were a factor. A single volcano can emit more grennhouse gases than the US has produced in its entire history. That is a fact. Sorry extremists, I ain't buying your snake oil.

For those who still haven't seen Beyond the Sea starring Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darrin, I urge you to rent the DVD NOW! I knows it's well over 2 years but it is worth it! I even bought the DVD! For you people under 25, the DVD movie is just for you---this is how an American (and Canadian for that matter!) Idol should be. Bobby left this world in 1973 at age 37 (an age that I now possess since this past January 24th) of his lifelong heart disease. If Bobby's in heaven right now, it sure is an exciting place. Here is the lovely Denise Paglia of New Jersey, the beautiful multiracial fitness model and former competitor (of Italian and Japanese descent) who graced many fitness magazines during the 1990's and 2000's. Will be 41 years old this year (wow!!! Life does begin at 40, especially looking that hot!). Dropped off the radar screen after the early 2000's but I am sure she is doing all right in whatever she is doing and still being fit and looking fit at the same time.

The Religious Right and the Energizer Bunny have one thing in common: they keep, going and going and going and going... Now one parent wants to ban a movie in his child's school and the movie is "An Inconvenient Truth" the documentary by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore discussing the effects of global warming. I watched the movie on DVD with my mother and we were impressed with Vice-President Gore's recollection of data and facts. HBO Real Time's Bill Maher was not mistaken that Al Gore is a "thinker" and cares very much about "details". I couldn't imagine President Bush doing a documentary like that at all. This movie had no sex,no drugs, no violence but it had a raw, hard, scientific data. The parent who wanted this movie banned will say, "scientific data, schmientific data!!! This movie does NOT have a Biblical view!" Well uh excuuuuse me!!! How about a Biblical view straight from the Book of Genesis that mankind was first assigned to tend the garden of Eden and kept it. In other words, we are to be stewards of our natural resources. Mankind has done the opposite for it's consumerist lust. Some will justify it and say that is capitalism and we all benefit from it. My I ask, "Who is we?" I would suggest those who are benefiting from this hot lust of consumerism and the assult on our environement is those who are enjoying a very luxurious existence than you and I. Why is there this silly rigid ideologue-ish mentality that there is a dichotomy between the environment and the economy. Why can't a holistic approach be entertained instead of a long-held and perversely cherished dualistic approach? Why can't we embrace more "organic farming" and growing more corn and beets for alternative fuel (ethanol) for automobiles. wouldn't this be good for the economy (jobs,jobs, jobs) and a help to the enivornment (more cleaner air?)??? Some will still be proud and obstinate!

The parent who did not want his child seeing this movie at school child somehow believes global warming is taking place but it is a part of God's wrath in Revelation and Al Gore is not mentioning this! I am no friend of Jeanine Garofolo (Saturday Night Live alumni), but a few years ago she brilliantly surmised on CBC Television that is easy to be "born again" but it is another thing to "grow up!" The school board agreed on a moratorium on the movie and suggested that alternative views in conjuction witht the movie be presented. The movie's co-producer Laurie David was shocked at the decision stating,"There is no opposing view to science, which is fact, and the facts are clear that global warming is here, now." An article from Seattle p.i.com also says, "In the light of new evidence and taking into account the remaining uncertainties, most of the observed warming over the last 50 years is likely to have been due to the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations," states a 2001 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which advises policymakers.
"Furthermore, it is very likely that the 20th-century warming has contributed significantly to the observed sea level rise, through thermal expansion of seawater and widespread loss of land ice."
The basics of that position are backed by the American Meteorological Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the National Academy of Sciences.

Should an opposing view to global warming be heard? I have no problem hearing the other side as long as they have their high volume of data and facts to support their conclusions. What I do not like (and find increasingly irritating) this constant song and dance routines that politicize this important issue of our time. Let's damn well take out the petty politics out of it. It is NOT a Democratic, Republican, Conservative, Liberal, NDP nor Green Party issue. Why can it be a just an issue for humanity? That means "everybody" needs to pitch in and do their part and nobody participates in intellectually lazy and deceiving excuses why they can't. I am specifically and especially talking to the evangelical Christian community in particular, who seem not give a bowel movement about it. It is time that is dualistic fixed notion of "saving souls" is paramount and overrides any importance and/or responsibility of saving this planet. I will even dare to say that this thinking is stubbornly, obstinately and perversely unbiblical and should be vigourously rejected by all people in the Christian faith across denominational and theological lines! Being concerned about our remaining nutural resources is not being a "tree hugger" and one can be concerned about our environment without "worshipping nature" (actually liberal evangelical Tony Campolo had a book about that). Having concern about how we deal with our waste is not socialism (former Reform/Alliance Leader Preston Manning, a hard-right laissez faire libertarian free market advocate of all people wants something like an environmental cost accounting on what we buy, consume and dispose of a particular product, so we can be shaped into what we really need and control our wasteful ways). For one to simply suggest that ALL environmentalists are socialists and communists who are looking for a door to make a comeback ruins ones credibility and is doing an emotional plea begging exercise which benefits nobody. It is time for Frosty Hardison of Federal Way, Washington, who wants to shield his child from "An Inconvenient Truth" to come on board!

This is probably the first IN MEMORIAMS of 2007. I remember John Majhor on 1050 CHUM radio and Toronto Rocks on City TV in the mid-1980's during my teen years. Great voice and now on this side of heaven it will be missed thanks to the dreaded and evil disease ADENOCARCINOMA which was determined to end his physical life . Rest in peace, Maj , for that great day to be revised and updated by the Author God Almighty!
